Getting Started

What is TippingTags?

TippingTags is a digital tipping platform built for businesses. You create an account, add your team members by name, and generate unique QR codes for each person. Customers scan the code and tip — no app downloads, no sign-ups, no friction.

How do I set up TippingTags for my business?

Sign up with your business details, connect your Stripe account, add your team members by name, and print their QR codes. The entire setup takes under 5 minutes. Your team members don’t need to do anything — no accounts, no apps, no personal information required.

Do my team members need to create accounts?

No. Team members never need to create accounts, share personal information, or download anything. You manage everything from your business dashboard. All they need is their printed QR code.

What types of businesses use TippingTags?

Any business where the team earns tips. Hotels and hospitality (housekeeping, bellhops, concierge), events and venues (bartenders, catering crews, coat check), salons and spas, restaurants, valet services, college sports programs (NIL-compliant), and more.

How It Works

How does a customer leave a tip?

The customer scans the team member’s QR code with their phone camera. A tipping page opens in their browser — no app needed. They choose an amount, enter their card details, and submit. The whole process takes seconds.

Where do the QR codes go?

Wherever your customers can see them. Print them on name badges, tent cards, station signs, room cards, or anywhere that makes sense for your business. Each team member gets a unique code linked to their name.

How are tips distributed to my team?

All tips flow into your connected Stripe account. Your dashboard shows exactly who earned what. You distribute to your team however you already pay them — payroll, direct deposit, or however works best for your business.

Can I manage multiple locations?

Yes. Business and Enterprise plans support unlimited locations. Each location has its own team, QR codes, and settings, all managed from a single dashboard. You can switch between locations at any time.

Pricing & Plans

How much does TippingTags cost?

The Starter plan is completely free — 1 location and up to 5 team members. The Business plan is $49/month per location with up to 25 team members. The Enterprise plan is $99/month per location with unlimited team members. Standard Stripe processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) apply to all plans.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Starter plan is free forever with 1 location and up to 5 team members. It includes QR codes, the full dashboard, tip tracking, and Stripe payment processing. No credit card required to get started.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your dashboard settings. When you upgrade, you get immediate access to the new plan’s features. When you downgrade, the change takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

Are there any transaction fees?

TippingTags doesn’t charge its own transaction fee. Standard Stripe card processing fees apply: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. These are industry-standard rates charged by Stripe, not by TippingTags.

Payments & Security

How are payments processed?

All payments are processed through Stripe, the same payment infrastructure used by companies like Amazon, Google, and Shopify. Every transaction is protected with 256-bit SSL encryption and PCI DSS compliance.

Is customer payment information safe?

Yes. TippingTags never stores credit card numbers or sensitive payment data. All payment processing is handled directly by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of security certification in the payments industry.

What is Stripe Connect?

Stripe Connect is the system that links your business bank account to TippingTags so you can receive tip payouts. You set it up once during onboarding, and it works across all your locations.

How quickly do I receive payouts?

Payout timing depends on your Stripe account settings. Stripe typically processes payouts on a 2-day rolling basis, but you can configure weekly or monthly schedules from your TippingTags dashboard.

Privacy & Data

What data do you collect from team members?

Only their display name — the name shown on the tipping page. No Social Security numbers, no email addresses, no phone numbers, no personal accounts. Team members never interact with the platform directly.

What data do you collect from customers who tip?

Customers can optionally provide their name and a message with their tip. Payment card details are processed directly by Stripe and are never stored on TippingTags servers.

Can I delete my business data?

Yes. You can deactivate team members and locations from your dashboard. If you want to delete your entire account and all associated data, contact our support team.

Account & Support

How do I add or remove team members?

From your dashboard, go to the Team section. Add members by entering their display name. Remove or deactivate members anytime — their QR codes will stop accepting tips immediately.

Can I deactivate a QR code?

Yes. Deactivating a team member automatically deactivates their QR code. You can reactivate them later if needed, and their QR code will work again.
